Introducing the Puffy Mattress

I recently got a chance to test out the new and improved version of the Puffy mattress, so this review has now been updated to reflect my latest findings. Overall, this mattress is an extremely good choice for side sleepers because it provides excellent support. If you want to relax and get maximum pressure relief from your mattress, buy yourself a Puffy.

How Firm is the Puffy Mattress?

Before we start, remember that firmness varies from person to person. Depending on their body weight, shape, and preferred sleeping position, a mattress will feel firm or soft to different sleepers.

To get an accurate impression of how firm the Puffy mattress feels, I asked a range of coworkers to rate their firmness level on a scale from 1 to 10. The industry standard for softness is 5.5 out of 10

When I first laid down on the Puffy, it felt super soft. But once I sunk through the top layer, I felt support from its middle layer.

I gave this mattress a six out of ten on the mattress firmness scale, which means it’s slightly softer than average.

Inside the Puffy Mattress

Here’s what the mattress looks like when the mattress covers are removed. What makes this mattress conformable is the top layer which quickly sinks into your body.

Overall, I think this was a softer mattress. Despite only having two layering options, it transitions well so you don’t feel yourself bumping into the base layer when you’re lying down.

Construction What’s Inside Puffy?

The Puffy mattress comes with a stylish and whimsically designed polyester cover, featuring charcoal gray diamonds around the edges and a light blue top with fluffy clouds outlined in white. If you’re a night owl who likes to drink coffee in bed or eat snacks at midnight, you’ll be happy that the updated cover is stain-resistant.

A simple wipe will usually remove the most visible debris, but the Zip-N- Wash cover was designed so it could be removed and washed for a deeper clean.

The mattress is 10 inches high.

The top layer is made up of 2 inches of cooling cloud foam, an award-winning product that took over four years to develop. This highly adaptive layer was designed to provide support and compression where needed and give way when needed. Cooling gel is added to this layer to prevent overheats.

Going deeper is a two-inch Climate Comfort™ foam. It’s a breathable transition foam which claims to have high pressure-relieving properties and resistance to temperature fluctuations.

The base of the mattress contains 6 inches of firm core support foam. This layer is designed for stability and to minimize sinking. You should also get individualized support from this layer. It’s designed to react to your weight and pressure.

Puffy Mattress Design and Construction

The Puffy bed has three proprietary foam layers and is 10 inches thick. Here, you can find an overview of the mattress’s construction

Base Layer – A 6″ layer of firm support foam serves as the base for the mattress.

Transition layer – The middle is made of Climate Comfort Foam, which has a breathable mesh back. This layer also has a reflective border around the edges.

Comfort layer – The company’s “Cooling Cloud Foam,” a unique foam infused with gel-infused viscose polyurethane foam, is 2″ thick.

Removable cover – It’s stain-resistant and machine-washable, as the name implies. The company technically refers to it as a “zip-n-wash,” which we take to imply that you can unzip the cover and wash it in your machine to get rid of filth, germs, and bacteria. It’s unusual for a cover to be

The top layer is produced by Puffy’s Variable Pressure Foaming (VPF) technology. It essentially refers to the firm’s manufacturing process, which is environmentally friendly. The foams are produced in a sealed chamber, lowering emissions and eliminating hazardous chemicals.

In general, Puffy’s soft cradle feeling is what side sleepers will be searching for. Side sleepers may experience discomfort around their hips and shoulders if a mattress is too hard.

Back and stomach sleepers The Puffy bed appears to be well suited for all sleeping postures. In terms of back and stomach sleepers, the mattress gives excellent support under your lower back and trunk.

However, keep in mind that the above claims are regarding petite and medium-sized people. People who weigh more than 230 pounds may not receive all they need from this all-foam bed.

Yes, we believe that the Puffy mattress will also be comfortable for combination sleepers. Regardless of how frequently you shift between your side, back, and belly positions, the bed is adaptable.

Sleeping Position – Does It Matter?

The position you take when you sleep has an impact on how comfy you’ll feel on the Puffy Mattress.

For example:

Back-sleeping – The hips comfortably sink in to accommodate your weight when you sleep on your back on a Puffy Mattress, giving you excellent balance and support. The firm second layer ensures that the sinking does not go too far, ensuring balance. As it takes the shape of the body and supports it.

Side-sleeping – The Puffy Mattress is the real deal for side sleepers who are not too heavy. The mattress replicates the form of the body, allowing you to relax. However, you may feel some pressure around your shoulder and hip area because of the odd curves formed on the mattress as you lie on it. This stress can cause discomfort and disrupted

Stomach-sleeping – The Puffy Mattress is not ideal for stomach sleeping since the body’s center weight pulls in and provides insufficient support for the weight around the hips. When you sleep on this mattress while stomach, you’ll develop lower-back discomfort over time.

Recommended for

Lightweight sleepers. The Puffy is not recommended for heavier sleepers (over 130 pounds), but it’s a great fit for people under 130 pounds. Lighter sleepers compress the foam less, resulting in firm mattresses that are too hard. The Puffy, with its medium firmness and extra-soft sleeping surface, provides pressure relief while ensuring support for lighter

Side sleepers below 230 pounds. People who sleep on their side may develop pressure points at their hip and shoulder. Puffy’s highly contouring memory foam compresses at potential pressure spots while curving to support the waist, relieving this problem.

Customers seeking superior pressure relief. Our pressure mapping research revealed that the Puffy provides exceptional pressure relief even among other memory foam models, according to our testing. When compared to other models, however, average-weight and heavier sleepers may find it to be too soft.

Not Recommended for

Sleepers over 230 pounds. The Puffy is a lightweight, soft-sleeping mattress that isn’t meant for heavier sleepers. Its 10-inch height might be insufficient for some heavy sleepers.

Stomach sleepers. While the Puffy may be appealing to some stomach sleepers, others may find that their hips sink out of alignment with their spine over time. This can cause stiffness and back pain over time.

Offgassing

Most new products emit chemical smells after being removed from packaging. Off-gassing odors are considered non-toxic but can be quite unpleasant nonetheless.

The Puffy has some potential for off-gassing which should dissipate within a few days of unboxing

Motion Isolation

The Puffy top received high marks for motion isolation, with testers reporting that they could feel almost no referred movement when their sleep partner changed positions or even got out of bed. The mattress dipped when sitting on the bed’s edge, but this was not enough to wake light sleeping partners.

The Puffy performed extremely well in this category, even when compared to memory foam competitors, according to our research. All-foam mattresses (and those utilizing memory foam in particular) are known for their high point elasticity, which contributes to excellent motion isolation. However, both our in-house testing and sleep measurements revealed that the Puffy mattress was able to isolate motion even better than most other foam mattresses. This is likely due to the bed’s use of two different types of memory foam (and higher-density foams, in general), as well as its unique design.

Pressure Relief

Our sleep testers praised the Puffy’s outstanding pressure relief. Few reported any pressure points, and they loved the fact that the memory foam comfort layer provided ample, body-hugging support. This was especially apparent for side sleepers, who noted that the mattress flexed to their curves nicely and enabled excellent spine alignment and minimal next-day stiffness.

Our heavier back and stomach sleepers, on the other hand, sank deeper into the memory foam layer than our lighter back and stomach sleepers. The comfort layers distributed weight equally and eliminated pressure hotspots, which was especially apparent for side sleepers and people under 230 pounds.

Temperature Neutrality

Our testers discovered that the Puffy sleeps warmer than mattresses with less conforming characteristics, yet it also has superior temperature neutrality than many of its memory foam competitors.

The Puffy can get uncomfortably hot after several hours for some sleepers who sleep very warm. Other testers, on the other hand, said that they remained in a comfortable temperature range throughout the night.

Memory foam absorbs and retains heat, and its cradle effect minimizes airflow. Synthetic foams sleep hot because of these two features working together. The Puffy, on the other hand, includes gel-infused memory foam as well as temperature-neutral polyfoam, which allows for greater temperature neutrality.
