Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress

Saatva is one of the country’s most popular online mattress brands, first opening in 2010 with the Saatva Classic innerspring.

The company has released a handful of different mattresses in the past few years, ranging from memory foam, all-latex, hybrid, and airbed models. In this review, I will investigate the Saatva Latex Hybrid, and see how it fares.

Constructed with a Talalay Latex comfort layer and pocketed coil support core, the NSaatva Latex Hybrid Mattress is a perfect blend of luxurious feel and enduring support.

Additional layers include organic Cotton cover, Wool fire barrier, and “Eco Loft” support pad to reinforce coils. Support is rated as medium-firm, which falls in the 6 category on our 1-10 firmness scale.

The Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress is a mid-range priced bed, being offered on the market by Saatva. This is the fourth mattress offered by Saatva that contains latex components. Saatva HD hybrid has offered a latex comfort layer, Zenhaven offers an all-latex sleep surface, and Solaire offers a bed with a latex comfort layer.

Saatva Latex Hybrid Cost

The Saatva Latex Hybrid costs $1,799 in a queen size. It has a mid-range cost, making it comparable to other similar models. Compared to other similar models, the Saatva Latex Hybrid is cheaper than the Saatva Classic ($1,299) and Loom & Leaf ($1,699), and more expensive than the Zenhaven ($2,399), Saatva HD ($2,599), and Solaire ($2,795).

How does Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress Feel

The Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress is considered a medium firm mattress, so you can expect a balanced combination of conforming and support. Most sleepers over 130 pounds will find it comfortable, but some find it too rigid and should consider a softer bed instead. The Latex Hybrid also has quite a springy feel due to its latex layer and thick coil system.

What Is the Saatva Latex Hybrid Made Of?

Saatva latex hybrid mattress materials

Cover Material

The Saatva Latex Hybrid cover is made of organic cotton, giving it an exceptionally soft and breathable feel.

The fabric is certified by GOTS, one of the leading authorities in organic bedding.

The cover cannot be removed or washed in a home machine. However, it can be spot cleaned if spots appear.

Under the cover lies a thin sheet of organic wool, which has also been GOTS certified. Wool is not only naturally breathable, but also acts as a fire barrier, helping to regulate surface temperatures so you stay cool.

Comfort Layers

The mattress is made with a 3-inch Talalay latex comfort layer. The latex is known for its light and bouncy feel and does not have the same dense composition as Dunlop latex. The mattress’s comfort layer is also vented with small holes to provide extra airflow near the mattress’s surface. Although this mattress doesn’t include a transition layer between the comfort and support layers, the latex is sturdy and supportive enough to prevent excessive sinkage on its own.

Support Core

Like most hybrids, the Saatva Latex Hybrid features an individually pocketed coil support core. This layer is divided into individual zones based on the coil gauge.

Thicker, lower-gauge coils are placed closer to the edge to reduce sinkage and bounce back. On the other hand, thinner, higher-gauge coils are placed throughout the interior of the mattress, supporting your body without feeling too stiff. The coils are reinforced by a “Eco Loft” pad underneath.

Saatva Latex Hybrid is 13 inches thick altogether, making it a high-profile mattress.

Does the Saatva Latex Hybrid Isolate Motion?

The Saatva Latex Hybrid’s motion isolation is rather limited, as is typical for this mattress type, but shouldn’t cause major sleep disturbances.

Talalay latex is a fairly light and responsive comfort layer that creates bounce when you change positions or get on and off the mattress.

The Saatva Latex Hybrid does not absorb motion quite as well as a mattress made of polyfoam or memory foam but it won’t produce excessive motion transfer, either.

People who wake up when their sleep partner moves may consider a mattress with a reduced response, while others can sleep soundly without interruption.

Does the Saatva Latex Hybrid Sleep Cool?

The Saatva Latex Hybrid sleeps quite cool due to its material construction.

Latex does not absorb and trap body heat the way foam does. The latex layer is also vented with small holes to allow air into the mattress’s surface, while the organic cotton cover and wool fire barrier provide additional breathability to keep you cool.

Temperature control is another important aspect of the support core. The open coil system promotes even air circulation to help the mattress maintain a comfortable core temperature.

Another factor is the medium firmness of the bed. You should not sink too much into the Saatva Latex Hybrid, especially if you weigh 230 pounds or less. This will ensure adequate surface ventilation. Softer beds that allow the body to sink in deeper can trap heat, making the sleeper feel uncomfortably warm.

Will it sag at the edges?

Sagging at the edges shouldn’t be much of a problem with the Saatva Latex Hybrid. The mattress is made with a zoned support core. Thicker coils are placed throughout the perimeter of the mattress to prevent extra sinking when one sits or sleeps near the edges.

Over time, you’ll likely notice more sinking along the edge-this is to be expected with any mattress, regardless of how thick the coils are-but the Saatva Latex Hybrid should provide strong edge support for several years. The thinner inner coils provide good support, so the mattress’s middle doesn’t feel as stiff as the edge.

Is it good for sex?

The Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress will tick many boxes for most couples and their bed preferences for sex.

The surface is very conformable and doesn’t sink in too much, so you and your partner can move around the mattress and change positions easily without feeling trapped or stuck. The latex also provides good traction so you can maintain a position for an extended period. In addition, the strong edge support of the bed allows you to use the entire lying surface, not just the interior.

There is one small downside to the mattress: it can be a bit noisy due to the coil layer, which can lead to embarrassing situations if someone else is sleeping nearby.

What About Off-gassing?

Off-gassing shouldn’t be much of an issue with this mattress because it doesn’t contain polyfoam or memory foam, the two materials most commonly associated with unpleasant initial odors. Latex emits a faint, rubbery odor when new, but it’s not nearly as strong or persistent as off-gassing from foam.

The Saatva Latex Hybrid also has a vented comfort layer and an open coil system that flushes out pesky odors fairly quickly; expect these odors to dissipate completely within a few days. If they do not, try placing the mattress in a well-ventilated room for an additional day or two.

What Type of Sleeper Is the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress Best for?

The Saatva Latex Hybrid provided adequate comfort and support for a variety of sleepers of different weights and positions. The most positive reviews come from people who sleep on their back or stomach. These sleep positions typically require a firmer feel, less contouring, and more reinforcement from the mattress.

The bed’s medium firmness is especially good for back and stomach sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds and can sink comfortably without sinking too much around their chest, stomach, waist, and other areas where people often carry more weight.

The Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress can also be comfortable for side sleepers, although many will find the mattress a bit too stiff. People who sleep in this position usually need more padding at the shoulders and hips to align the spine and relieve pressure in sensitive areas.

Those who weigh less than 130 pounds may find the mattress too firm and choose a softer mattress instead.

People that weigh at least 130 pounds will probably be more comfortable, but maybe not in the same way as back or stomach sleepers.

How does body weight affect Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress performance?

Everyone has different mattress preferences, but models with a medium support feel – like the Saatva Latex Hybrid – are best for people who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds. In most cases, these individuals will not sink in excessively under the surface or find the mattress too stiff. On a softer mattress, these same sleepers will sink in more, which can make them susceptible to pain and pressure points in the neck and shoulders, lower back, and hips. Likewise, extra hard mattresses can cause stiffness and pain in these areas of the body.

Sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds will find the Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress comfortable, while others may find it less supportive. Side sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds in this weight range will have a limited comfort layer experience, which affects the spinal alignment and causes more pressure. With the slightly conforming latex layer and sturdy coil system, back and stomach sleepers under 130 pounds may be very comfortable on this mattress.

Is the Saatva latex hybrid mattress good for couples?

The Saatva Latex offers pros and cons for couples and co-sleepers. The mattress offers a responsive feel that makes moving around on the surface quite easy, and is compatible with couples who prefer bouncy beds for sex. Thanks to the strong edge support, co-sleepers can also spread out on the mattress instead of squeezing into the middle. Temperature neutrality is another benefit. Couples don’t have to worry about overheating on this mattress thanks to breathable components that promote even airflow from top to bottom.

At the same time, the resilient surface of the Saatva Latex Hybrid limits its ability to absorb movement and eliminate transfers. Occasionally, sleepers may notice their partners change positions or get up during the night. The coils are not particularly noisy at first, but they can produce more noise over time and cause sleep disturbance for those with sensitive hearing.
